Juneteenth (June 19) commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. In 2019, Governor Whitmer declared that June 19 will be recognizes as Juneteenth Celebration Day in Michigan. Most states recognize Juneteenth as a holiday. Additionally, a number of businesses, including Quicken Loans in Detroit, recognize Juneteenth as company holidays. The City of Detroit will be holding several online events throughout the week.
