As we enter the final weeks of the election season, we want to acknowledge the excitement and intensity surrounding many of the issues in our social, environmental, and political climate today. In addition to all learning to adapt to the continued presence of the COVID 19 pandemic, this election season is unique as we all navigate how to engage in activism in a socially-distanced, and largely virtual, manner. As a university campus community, we want to offer a few reminders for employees and students:
- Our mission as a Jesuit and Mercy institution calls for education which integrates “intellectual, spiritual, ethical, and social development” of our students. Respectful dialogue and professional communication must be upheld when engaging in expressions of diverse thoughts, ideas, and opinions.
- The School of Dentistry outlines professional conduct expectations in the Academic Policies Handbook. In addition, the University Social Media Policy includes guidance on appropriate use of social media for the campus community. Both can be found here: https://dental.udmercy.edu/_files/pdf/Academic_Policies_Handbook.pdf
- Currently, events and social gatherings are not permitted at the School of Dentistry in alignment with our COVID 19 protocols and in accordance with campus, local, and state guidelines. We ask that all individuals are mindful of appropriate social distancing, mask protocols, and other risk-management practices to reduce the risk of COVID 19 exposure when engaging in activities outside of the School of Dentistry campus.
