Each headband costs $5.00. The headbands come in two colors: light pink or hot pink, and they include buttons sewn on the sides for keeping your mask secured. There is a picture of the headband on the attached flyer. A portion of the profits from each headband will be donated to Breast Cancer Action.

LOUPE FAIR – OCT 17 – SAVE THE DATE

The school will be hosting a Loupe Fair on October 17th in Special Functions. Please save this date if you are interested in buying or learning more about loupes! There will be 5-6 loupe vendors there for you to learn from and see what is the best option for you – feel free to get advice from upper year students but ultimately go with what you like the best, they are a large investment and you will have them for quite a while!

There will be a sign up sheet to sign up for a time to attend the loupe fair as we will be observing social distancing that day. Please keep an eye out for the sign up in the coming weeks.

Please note: vendor contact should be through this loupe fair, student organizations such as ASDA or AO, or administration ONLY, not through you as individual students. If a vendor contacts you, please ask them to reach out to ASDA, AO or Adrianna Moreno.

We will also be planning a Loupe Fair for the Spring semester so if for any reason you can’t make it or aren’t ready to purchase this year, there will be plenty of time!

Yom Kippur 2020: The Day of Atonement

Yom Kippur 2020 / יוֹם כִּפּוּר 5781

Yom Kippur (pronounced Yom Ki-POOR)

The Day of Atonement

Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) began on sunset on Sunday, September 27 and ends at sundown on Monday, September 28, 2020.

What it is: Yom Kippur is the last and most important of Judaism’s 10 High Holy Days, which begins on Rosh Hashanah (Friday, September 18, Sunday, September 20), the Jewish New Year.

Yom Kippur (Hebrew: יוֹם כִּפּוּר or יום הכיפורים), Also known as Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year for the Jews. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jewish traditionally observe this holy day with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. Yom Kippur completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days (or sometimes “the Days of Awe”).

“Happy Yom Kippur” isn’t really appropriate for this holiday.

“Yom Tov” or “Gud Yuntif” is more appropriate

“Yom Tov” translates literally into “good day”, it’s meant to refer to the high holidays of Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah. It’s used as a greeting by both Ashkenazi (Eastern European) and Sephardic (Spanish or Portuguese) Jews. Ashkenazi Jews also use the Yiddish phrase “Gud Yuntif”, which has the slightly awkward transliteration of “Good good day”
