Show your Breast Cancer Awareness for October!

The Dental Hygiene Class of 2022 is holding a fundraiser and showing our support for October: Breast Cancer Awareness month. We are selling pink ribbon breast cancer awareness enamel pins (pictured on the form in the link below), $5 apiece.  They can be worn on your scrubs or lanyards and are re-usable.  These will be a great way to show your support on campus! Feeling Like An Imposter?

Hope we are all having a great week! ASDA Wellness is excited to announce that Dr. Juliette Daniels will be holding a session/workshop that will teach students how to address and identify imposter syndrome on Friday, October 08, 2021, at 1:30 pm in Room 1460 and via Blackboard Collab. Attending this session is highly recommended since impostor syndrome is very common in dental school. Snacks will be provided at the end of the in-person session (outside).

MDA Scholarships: Applications Now Open-Deadline September 30

The MDA Foundation is announcing their 2021 Scholarship Season and is looking forward to another year of excellent applicants. The deadline for these applications is September 30. Several of these scholarships are earmarked for Detroit Mercy Dental students. Attached are the following items:

·       Descriptions of the scholarships available this year:

·       2021 Scholarship Questions –applicants who make it to the second round will be asked these questions in a conference call with scholarship committee members

·       The scholarship score sheet – shows how the board and staff will score each conversation with students

To complete an application, students need to go directly to the MDA website at the following address:

All the information we need from the student is there, and the form is completed online. Follow-up calls will be scheduled with qualified applicants. We always want to have an open and transparent process where students are not nervous about the call but are ready for a conversation. Learn to Dance Salsa

Salsa is a rhythmic Latin dance with its origins in Colombian culture. Salsa dancers move their feet to the beat of the music and are influenced by the movements of the cha-cha, mambo, and African styles as well. When dancing salsa, dancers often add their own flair by moving their hips and upper body in coordination with the basic footwork.

 In Mexico, and other Latin American countries, the Day of the Dead is the time of the year to celebrate the lives of close relatives, friends or community members who have passed away.

Starring Salma Hayek as Minerva Mirabal, and Marc Anthony as Lio, these three sisters’ mission to overthrow the dictator made them leading female figures in history. 

Accepting Applications | NC Dental Public Health Residency Program

The North Carolina Dental Public Health Residency Program is accepting applications until January 15, 2022, for the 2022-2023 program year (July start date).  The program is uniquely housed within the state health department and offers residents broad exposure and experience in managing a state oral health program.  Residents also have access to a variety of resources and opportunities through partnerships with the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, East Carolina University, and non-profit organizations. There are no tuition fees and a stipend may be available to eligible residents.

Detroit Mercy Scholarships: Applications Now Open

The School of Dentistry is happy to announce that we have several scholarships available to students to apply for NOW and to receive in this academic year!  These scholarships have been made possible by generous alumni and friends of Detroit Mercy Dental. Haiti Earthquake: Medical Relief

There are three ways you can help: Option 1.  Donate medical supplies directly at Detroit Mercy Corktown Campus 

  1. Four boxes can be found on campus, two in each of the following locations.
  2. Location A:  Corktown library (second floor of Clinic building) 
  3. Location B: Entrance of student building where the patient check-in desk used to be.

The boxes will have the lists of the needed items; feel free to take a picture of the lists if you plan on buying items in local drugstores. Option 2.Purchase Medical items from amazon Wishlist.
