Dental Class of 2021 Scholarship Available

Delta Dental Foundation sponsors an exciting opportunity called the Delta Dental Foundation Community Commitment Award for one of our Detroit Mercy Dental graduates each year. The award goes to one graduating dental student per year who commits to working in a designated high-needs area for at least one year after graduation. The amount will be $25,000 paid in two installments: $12,500 upon graduation; and $12,500 upon completion of your first year of work. The criteria are as follows:

  1. Awarded annually to a graduating dental student at Detroit Mercy Dental
  2. Student has demonstrated commitment to community service by committing to practice in an underserved community:
    1. Located in the state of the school in which he/she attended
    2. Minimum 1-year commitment immediately following graduation
    3. Underserved community must have received federal designation as a Dental Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) due to lack of dental care professionals in that community. A list of those communities can be found at: https://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/
    4. Should demonstrate educational debt
    5. Should demonstrate strong academic record, service and commitment to underserved populations

The application deadline is Monday, March 22 at 9:00am. Applications should include an updated CV, a 1-2 page personal statement, and verification of commitment to an HPSA (signed contract). Please send all completed applications via email to me at katsiman@udmercy.edu. If you would like to apply but are waiting on a final contract, please email me to let me know.

Detroit Mercy Time Capsule

We are looking for items that could be included in the Detroit Mercy Time Capsule, which will be integrated into the new addition to the Student Union. We invite all faculty, staff, and students to recommend an item that could be included in the capsule. All submissions will be evaluated by a review panel composed of students and employees.

We encourage individuals from all of our campuses to consider making a recommendation. The renovation of the Student Union, initially built in 1955, gives our community a chance to plant a capsule that will be opened in the future. How might we capture Detroit Mercy, the times we are living in, the University’s past, present and future?

We hope you will take a moment to reflect and provide a suggestion.  We ask that you submit the name of the item with a short justification for your recommendation. Each person is allowed only one entry.  The submissions selected will be announced in Campus Connection and receive a gift card as a token of appreciation for participating.

Please visit the Time Capsule submission site at: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=2MKkyGi9ukC4tnUivppxceOgrZeZanxOp68IkT34oXpUMkZDOFBPVVc5QU9MR1FJWkhNU01WSU1WTC4u
